Treatment of Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis) and Body Odor
I. UNDERARM
A. NON-SURGICAL: BOTOX (temporary)
Multiple deep intradermal injections into the axillae (underarm) with 100 - 200 units of Botox per axilla will give a very significant reduction in sweating and body odor lasting for 4 to 6 to 12 months. Generally, clinical effect will be seen within 1 week.

B. SURGICAL: SUCTION CURETTAGE (permanent)
A special cannula designed by Dr. Shirakabe will be inserted thru a 1-cm incision just under the skin on the axillary area border to scrape out and suck out the sweat glands, apocrine glands, and apoeccrine glands responsible for excessive sweating and body odor. The 1-cm fine line incision scar will be inconspicuous after a few months.

II. PALMAR HYPERHIDROSIS
Botox injection for palmar hyperhidrosis is also very effective in reducing or eliminating sweat production for an extended period of time (around 6 months) with minimal risk. However, some factors must be considered when treating the hands. These include rare sensitivity to pain and the potential for unintended muscle weakness. The dominant hand is treated first then the next hand at a later time. Owing to the abundance of free nerve endings in the region, the procedure will be very painful so a mild sedation to put patient to sleep is usually necessary.
